Claude Cambour Biography

Claude Cambour was born in Normandy, France in 1940. His childhood home was frequented by famous artists in the area, and his grandfather lived with the well-known Maurice de Vlaminck. After living in many different regions of France, Cambour eventually moved to the banks of the Marne at Nogent. It was here that he learned of his passion for painting and he surrounded himself with the work of Monet, Renoir, Sisley and Pissaro in order to study their style. Inspired by the very locations Monet painted, Cambour moved to Giverny where he was inspired by the colors found throughout the landscapes. Soon he was able to teach himself the Impressionistic art form and often used dots to play with the nuances of color, distance and texture. Today, Cambour’s work is known for his ability to employ a large range of color as he brings out the natural shades of nature and his experience in that environment. He continues to live and develop his art in France, but his work can be seen all over the world.
Poulsen Galleries has been a proud to represent Claude Cambour’s work for many years. In the past, our family enjoyed the privilege of visiting Cambour’s gallery in France . We hope others will enjoy his beautiful works of art as much as we have throughout the years.
