Artist: Marcel Dyf
Marcel Dyf Biography
Marcel Dyf 1899-1985
Marcel Dyf was born in Paris in 1899. In his youth he showed a marked ability for painting, so that he was always drawing, expressing in color almost as soon as he could walk. After studying with other artists as an amateur, he decided at the age of 23 to devote himself entirely to painting. Once he had taken the definite step, his art developed quickly and, with a vivid imagination he developed a singularly individual style, with the result that he soon became known not only in France, but in America, Canada, Germany and Algiers.
Among his many early successful exhibitions were those at the famous House of Petrides in Paris in 1949, 1951, and 1953. He was also greatly honored by being asked to exhibit at the Carnegie Institute in the National Exhibition in 1950. He has had very successful exhibitions in London in 1984, 1986 and 1987. Poulsen Galleries is proud of having represented Dyf for over 40 years, which included several major exhibitions held at our own galleries in Newport Beach and Pasadena, California.
Today Dyf has an international reputation. He was one of the most lively exponents of the art of painting; a man of vivid personality who enriched and enlivened one with his enthusiasm, making one feel the strength of his inherent vitality, presenting one with color beautifully and freshly expressed through a wonderful technique.
