Erich Paulsen, a German artist whose painterly use of a palette knife on colorful European scenes was born in 1932 in the small town of Treuenbrietzen just outside Berlin. His family moved West after the war, in search for safety- so it was Hamburg, where the aspiring young artist attended the Master-Class for painting (Meisterschule der Malerei) from which he graduated with honors.
With growing success he could afford studying-trips throughout Europe- Italy, France, and Spain to name just a few.
The themes of his paintings are mostly landscapes. The raw beauty of the river landscapes along Weser and Elbe-River has always fascinated him and portscenes are amongst his favorite subjects.
All this-together with his very personal feeling for colors and the bold palette-knife- techniques so typical for him, have made Paulsen's paintings cherished collectors-pieces in many countries.
